Python Slips in Popularity
While Python still holds the top ranking in February’s Tiobe index of programming language popularity, its popularity has declined over the past six months from a high market share of 26.98% in July to the current 21.81%. The shift, according to Tiobe CEO Paul Jansen, suggests more specialized or domain-specific languages like R and Perl are gradually gaining ground at Python’s expense. R ranked eighth this month with a 2.19% rating, while Perl ranks 11th with a 1.67% rating.
